WAYS TO DONATE

A donation to SHRO brings us closer to understanding  the diseases of today and to training the reesearchers of the future.

MAKE A GIFT ONLINE

Your gift to the Sbarro Health Research Organization will provide funding for some of the most gifted and innovative young researchers working in science today. A donation will help to support important and vital advances in cancer, cardiovascular and diabetes research that will lead to improved therapies, better treatments and precise diagnostic tools.

Monetary Donations
Monetary donations can be made by Internet on Pay Pal or can be mailed directly to SHRO. Please send any monetary contributions to: Sbarro Health Research Organization • BioLife Science Bldg. Suite 431• 1900 N 12th Street • Philadelphia, PA 19122 (USA)

In-Kind Donations
Gifts of office supplies, office machines, catering, restaurant services, and merchant offerings of many types can be used by SHRO. These items are fully tax-deductible for individuals to the extent provided by law. For more information on in-kind contributions, please contact Marie Basso at basso'at'shro.org.

Securities
Stock certificates may be reassigned directly or transferred through your broker. Appreciated securities should be contributed outright, which will avoid capital gains taxes on their appreciated value. Securities that have decreased in value should be sold, with the proceeds donated to SHRO. In this way, a donor can receive a deduction for both the loss and the charitable contribution.

Life Insurance
You may designate the Institute as the beneficiary of an existing or new policy, or irrevocably assign ownership of the policy. There are estate tax benefits in either case. If ownership is assigned, there is an immediate tax deduction.

Appreciated Real Estate or Personal Property
Large tax benefits may result from contributions of personal property or real estate. SHRO can either use the contributed property for its program or sell property to raise funding.

Trusts and Annuities
Various trusts and annuities are available for donors who may wish to make contributions during their lifetimes and reap the tax benefits of planned giving. Factors such as age, locality, tax bracket and estate planning needs all play a role in selecting the best type of vehicle. Our Development staff will be glad to discuss those currently available and under discussion at SHRO. Please contact us by e-mail for written materials pertaining to a specific trust arrangement.

Matching Gifts
Many Fortune 500 companies, small corporations, and universities and colleges team up with employees by matching their donations to qualified nonprofit organizations. Please check with your Human Resources Department.

Charitable Remainder Trusts
Remainder trusts can be structured to suit the donor's specific desires when it comes to the extent of the gift, timing, and tax requirements. These trusts permit the donor to receive tax benefits now based on a future gift to SHRO upon the donor's passing. Benefits include a current income tax deduction based on the projected value at the time of the donor's death and the ability for the trust to sell assets without triggering a capital gain. Donors generally retain the right to receive specified annual payments from the trust until their deaths, at which time the balance passes to SHRO.

Bequests
SHRO may be designated as a beneficiary upon a donor's passing.

Conversion of Private Foundation to "Public" Status
Creating a separate fund within SHRO where assets of a private foundation can be employed for purposes specified by the donor may be an option. Alternatively, a private foundation can be established as a supporting organization of SHRO. Contact the staff at SHRO for additional information at basso'at' shro.org.
